Every fan of Millennium has their own vision for Frank Black’s filmic return. A dramatic storyline that deserves to play out on the big screen, boasting a dream cast. A personal dilemma for the legendary profiler that reflects a pertinent theme. A fierce adversary worthy of his heroic endeavor. Now, Back to Frank Black is giving you the opportunity to share that vision as part of the Millennium Movie Trailer Competition. Create a trailer that teases the Millennium movie you want to see, and we will share it with a legion of eager fans. The creator of the winning trailer will receive a copy of the complete series DVD box set in their choice of either Region 1 or 2 format.

But that’s not all. The winning entry in this contest will have their work enhanced thanks to a truly unique prize. None other than the celebrated composer Mark Snow will provide the soundtrack to your trailer with original music written specifically for the segment. This is your chance to produce something new and original with the help of the man who created Millennium’s atmospheric theme music and scored the entire series—not to mention the iconic theme and soundtrack to The X-Files both for television and its big screen outings, as well as the rest of Ten Thirteen Productions’ output.

Check out the competition rules below, including details on how to submit your trailer and the closing date for entries. We can’t wait to see what you come up with, and to unveil the winner in this latest venture to envision ways that might usher in the return of Frank Black.

Competition Rules & Guidelines:

1. Trailers should be between 90 and 150 seconds in length and must be presented without a musical soundtrack. (You may of course apply a soundtrack if this helps you create the trailer, but please remove the music before sending it to us.)
2. Trailers may be submitted in any of the following formats: mov, mpg, avi, or wmv.
3. Visual and audio content from Millennium and/or other sources are permitted to be included under Fair Use rights. If you are including original content, you should obtain the permission of any individuals that feature in such content before submitting your trailer(s).
4. Multiple entries are permitted.
5. All entries are to be submitted via SendSpace, with the relevant URL to be emailed to info@backtofrankblack.com along with your contact details.
6. All entries are to be submitted by 11.59pm CET on Friday 7 June 2013.
7. The winning trailer will be selected by a board picked in turn by the Back to Frank Black campaign team, and the board’s decision will be final.
8. Please note that Mark Snow’s contributing soundtrack will be created according to his existing work schedule, therefore a date can not currently be confirmed for its completion.
9. In submitting your trailer for the competition, you agree that it may be shared by Back to Frank Black in order to support the campaign online, and in other promotional materials. Credit will be given in any and all such instances that the video is used.

Well, here’s our thing. There are a couple of key factors that make the Veronica Mars campaign quite distinct from our own. Firstly, the creator of the show, Rob Thomas, and star, Kristen Bell, had themselves been actively campaigning for a movie for several years. They had both met with executives at Warner Bros, pitched this idea to them, and got them on board before even initiating the Kickstarter project. Whilst we have reported previously how Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, and Lance Henriksen—as well as pretty much every member of the cast and crew with whom the campaign has had contact—would be interested in a Millennium movie, it is that pivotal conversation at the level of Chris Carter and the Fox executives that has yet to take place, or to agree upon a sound business case and a common goal.

Secondly, the script to this now upcoming Veronica Mars movie had already been written. Thomas had been working on it for a while, and hence the shoot can take place relatively quickly. When it comes to Millennium, again Chris Carter has been open about some of the ideas he already has for Frank Black’s long-awaited return but—so far as we know, at least—that script has yet to be penned.

None of this is to say that we would totally write off the potential for a crowd-funding opportunity for Millennium at some point in the future. To corrupt a well known mantra, though, the time is not now. Ten Thirteen fans might also note that Frank Spotnitz recently pitched in over at Big Light on this same topic in regards to suggestions to use Kickstarter to fund a third X-Files movie. He, too, cast aside the notion, at least for the time being. It is the studio backing to a specific Millennium movie pitch that would be the game-changer to make Frank Black’s filmic return a reality, and we do not—yet—have that.

We will of course keep you updated if this situation changes and, if it does, your support would be vital. Until then, the best way you can help further our cause is to keep spreading the word on the campaign. Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and—crucially—encourage others to do the same. Better still, if you do want to outlay some of your hard-earned cash then buy our eponymous book, and if you have already done so then please don’t under-estimate the importance of adding a review over at Amazon. All of these kinds of efforts genuinely help sustain and increase Millennium‘s profile, and earn us the right kind of attention that might yet prompt Fox to sit up, take note, and perhaps even dig deep into their own pockets so as to bring back Frank Black.

Hot on the heels of the radiant image of Klea Scott we posted here just a few days ago, another Millennium alumnus has shared with us a photo of themselves with their copy of Back to Frank Black. Pictured opposite is none other than musical genius Mark Snow.

The composer, whose work famously featured in all of Ten Thirteen’s creations—including his truly iconic theme for The X-Files—composed the score for Millennium‘s entire run, powerfully imbuing the series with much of its character and mood in the process.

The campaign’s interview with Snow forms the heart of an insightful and detailed chapter in Back to Frank Black entitled “Bigger than the Beatles”. To understand the story behind that provocative tagline, as well as much more about his career and his approach to writing music for Millennium and beyond, be sure to pick up a copy of the book!

The hardcover of Back to Frank Black retails at $44.99 and the paperback is priced at $28.99, with all profits from sales to be donated to Lance Henriksen’s nominated charity, Children of the Night. This is her first solo interview with the campaign, though she did write for us in our Back to Frank Black book – a comprehensive guide to Millennium and the campaign available right now!

Wright directed no fewer than twenty-six instalments of Millennium across its three-year run—more than any other director who worked on the series—earning himself a credit as producer and the honorary title “Mr. Millennium” from none other than Chris Carter! You can read much more about his career in the volume itself, which features a chapter dedicated to an interview he gave to the campaign and that is titled after his association with the great Alfred Hitchcock.
