What is “BacktoFrankBlack.com?”
BacktoFrankBlack is a campaign to return the fictional criminal profiler Frank Black, played by Lance Henriksen and created by Chris Carter back. He was last seen in the X-Files episode Millennium in 1999 after being the lead character in Chris Carter’s award winning series, Millennium (1996) that ran for three years. More recently, in JANUARY 2011, actor Lance Henriksen, creator Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz have spoken about returning to the character to the small screen! What was “Millennium?”
Millennium was a TV show by X-Files creator Chris Carter that aired in 1996 for three years. It told the tale of Frank Black, a criminal profiler working for a private consultancy called the Millennium Group. A family man, Frank confronted the horrors of human evil to see beyond the veil of man’s deeds to an Evil that lurked beyond. Season one of the show dealt primarily with serial killers who were nurtured by the social anxiety of the then upcoming millennium. By season two, the tone had shifted to a more mythological focus as Frank discovered the religious and controlling nature of the consultancy group he was working for. Season three brought Frank back to the FBI and his attempts to expose the Millennium Group’s true nature. The show was award winning and critically acclaimed. Can we resurrect a ten year old show?
We are not looking for the show’s resurrection, but a continuation of its characters in a new form. We don’t believe the show Millennium, as it was, necessarily has a place in today’s television, but Frank Black and his supporting characters are strong enough to step beyond the confines of the old show and into a new one. Millennium was largely about the fears of the upcoming millennium – and one could argue that a new show set in the turmoil of the 21st Century would be an appropriate thematic evolution. In essense, we and the cast and crew of the show believe Frank Black was a unique character that is due a return in some form. Back to Frank Black is about giving the fans a voice.

How much interest is there in Chris Carter’s franchises? Is X-Files 3 going to happen?
Check our “sisters” over at X-FilesNews.com – The X-Files is certainly not dead. X-Files 3 is still VERY much a possibility. A campaign is mounting for a third movie with many rumours sparking on the internet. The smallest comment from Gillian Anderson sparks off massive media interest. As for Millennium, there is a greater interest and exposure on Millennium now than there ever has been.. thanks to this campaign and your good selves!

So who has said what about the return of Frank Black?
The most up-to-date commentary from Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz and Lance Henriksen comes from the podcast we did with them in JANUARY 2011.

Lance, Chris and Frank have said publicly their keen interest in Frank Black’s return – Chris is keen on the idea of it returning as a TV EVENT, possibly on FOX. This is a route Lance is very keen on as well. Lance is not eager to do another series, but a TV EVENT – a one off, or mini-series that perhaps leads to a movie would be a road Lance is keen to travel! Frank has always said that he’d been keen on returning to Millennium, as stated in his audio interview with Back To Frank Black here.

How about the return of Peter Watts?
The name of the campaign is Back to Frank Black, but we would equally love to see the return of Lara Means, Peter Watts, Lucy Butler, Jordan Black, Emma Hollis and all the other great characters. Our call for Frank extends to the related characters of his universe. We felt it was important to create a campaign that was progressive rather than retrospective. We aren’t asking for FOX or any other company to turn back the clock and return Millennium, we want to see Frank and company return in a fresh format!

So have you contacted Lance Henriksen?
Lance is key to the campaign, as much a voice on staff as anyone else. He promotes the campaign outside this site, frequently mentioning it in his convention appearances, radio appearances and even his recently released book Not Bad For A Human by himself and Joe Maddrey. Back To Frank Black is sourced for its factual content in the book’s topic of Millennium.

So is it a TV movie you’re after?
We’re not here to dictate such industry based decisions! But Chris has stated he sees Frank Black’s return being TV based, being more suited to a TV event than a Hollywood blockbuster. Lance is in agreement with this. That is not to say this direction isn’t open to change.

I’ve been aware that Lance Henriksen has been using his voice for the video game industry as of late which is awesome since I’m sure many of us are gamers. I was hoping that one day they would make a Millennium game. Why not, since the did managed to release 2 X Files games. Gamers unite.
